Introduction to Mass Communication 102

Location Activity

Visit the Neville Museum

For one of my location activities, I visited the Neville Museum http://www.nevillepublicmuseum.org/. It was very interesting to notice how prevalent mass media was in the past. Sometimes we take for granted how important the mass media has become and how essential it is in linking the past to the present.

One thing that I thought was interesting was all of the old photographs of Green Bay. The pictures included photographs of Packer players as well as regular people. It was like looking through a window to the past.
Another thing that I found interesting was a silent film about Green Bay. It was called A Gay Day In Green Bay which was produced in the early 1900’s. The movie showed various footage of early Green Bay. I am pictured here standing next to the display. I found this to be especially interesting because it really shows the effect of the mass media.
Museums have experienced change thanks in part to mass media. They have more access to history through videos and the internet. Through mass communications, museums are able to help connect us to a particular time and place.
