Lawton Art Gallery

I had the opportunity to visit the University of Wisconsin Green Bay’s Lawton Art Gallery
http://www.uwgb.edu/lawton/. The Lawton Gallery has pieces of art on display created by Green Bay students. There were many different types of displays including paintings, drawings, and sculptures that were truly magnificent pieces.

While looking at the different pieces I came across a particularly interesting one that is pictured with me. I found this an interesting piece because it was so unique. The horse made me think of how essential horses used to be for daily living. They provided transportation for people across the world since people did not have cars or airplanes.

The pieces on display were captivating to look at, but I found it very odd that there was so much white space on the walls around the art pieces. The Gallery was intimidating in the fact that there was so much white space. I believe they did this to make the different pieces stick out for the viewers but almost found it to make the gallery seem bare.

Some of the pieces were quite shocking to look at. One picture included four men in a metropolis where the residents are eating their own body parts. I find it interesting that in art people can display such insane scenes to the public but I believe if this scene was acted out in a movie the movie would have had an R rating with limited public viewing.

When visiting this gallery I realized that it was my first time ever visiting an art gallery. I think this may be because I grew up in the country, which limited different things I could do. If I had grown up in the city I have no doubt that I would have already had the opportunity to see an art gallery. I also believe that if I had lived in the 19th century I would have never had the opportunity to view art like this.

After visiting the Lawton Art Gallery I have found a new appreciation for art. Artists need to have a lot of talent and imagination to create so many remarkable pieces. I am extremely grateful that I had the opportunity to view this talent.
